Art Program

St. Louis offers outstanding art education for students from Montessori to 8th grade. Engaging in visual arts enhances cognitive and creative problem-solving skills. Our art program provides an opportunity to explore 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works of art using a variety of materials, tools and processes. We promote collaboration and responsible handling of materials.

Elementary Art:

• Explore diverse art forms: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, graphic design, technology and much more.
• Encourage imagination and artistic expression.
• Provide art integration to other subject areas, including historical and cultural references throughout time.
• Align with necessary TEKS standards by grade.

Middle School Art:

• Engage students actively, enhancing cognitive function, problem solving skills and critical thinking.
• Focus on fundamental foundations: observation, creative expression, historical/cultural significance, critical evaluation.
• Learn about art history and techniques of artists.
• Embrace choice-based art, attaining TEKS standards.

Music Program

At St. Louis, we take pride in our exceptional music education program, an integral part of the curriculum from Montessori through 8th grade. Middle school students also have the opportunity to select music electives. Our curriculum places a strong focus on fundamental musical concepts, including rhythm, pitch, form, movement, tempo, mood, beat, and melody.

Elementary Music:

• Developing singing voice and sense of pitch.
• Reading and writing musical notation.
• Group and solo singing.
• Counting, chanting, and performing rhythms in simple and compound meter.
• Initial understanding of harmonic structures in music.
• Connecting sung melodies to instruments.
• Differentiating instruments and musical styles.
• Each class contributes ideas and melodies while composing a class song.

Middle School Music:

• Explore songwriting techniques with a focus on expressive fundamentals.
• Develop and create video game audio. 
• Learn audio engineering and the technical aspects of recording, mixing, and producing audio.
• Cougar Band is offered as an elective class to middle school students, welcoming all instruments like guitar, piano, and strings. The Cougar Band performs in pep rallies, concerts, and special events throughout the year. Members are encouraged to engage in local competitions for full-band festival participation.
